My new, portable art workshop makes its debut at the Kozuka Arts Festival later this month.
Last year I did a full-on booth with a tent, table, and stools for workshop participants. It was a lot of prep and although it was well-received, I just couldn’t bear the thought of doing all that again. So I pared it down to a minimum of stuff to carry: a single briefcase with basic art supplies, an office/OA theme, and fun activities.
But on a call yesterday with an artist friend, I realised that while the concept was solid, the briefcase itself was boring. This morning, I stepped off the cliff of “keeping it nice” and created a colorful backdrop for the white office supplies that will fill the case. I love it a lot. Meet the Art Briefcase!
What’s inside? For the Arts Festival I’ll have a rotation of activities as a mini-workshops during the festival that can alternatively be taken home as a kit to try later.

The Kozuka Arts Festival is in its 16th year. Up the the wooded mountains of Kamogawa, it’s the biggest exhibition of artists and performers (and food trucks!) in the area. The schedule is online now; and you can take the Akushi-Go bus direct from Tokyo to get within walking distance of the venue.
