Yesterday our rain gauge captured a record amount of daily rain, 179.9mm. It wasn’t a typhoon, but a hard, steady rain all day long. Around town there were floods and landslides causing road closures until they were cleared. Landslide evacuation level 4. Perhaps an abundance of caution, but after last month’s linear rainband causing 8 deaths, everyone is serious about weather.
By this morning the rain had passed. I wandered outside in my pajamas with a cup of yesterday’s coffee to see whether there was any visible damage at 555. Instead of damage, I found a delight.
The sun rose through the fog. Glorious! And on the other side of the sky I saw a rainbow. I had to hustle down to the street to examine it better and I was rewarded with a full arc across the valley.
When I came back up to the house, it was visible here, too.
