What’s special about 37? It’s how many years Tod & I have been married. <3
Also, it’s a prime number and a “lucky prime” at that. It does fun things if you multiple it by 3s. 37 is standard body temperature in Celsius. And it’s the number most chosen as a “random number between 1 and 100.” It’s quite strange!
My anniversary gift to Tod was a mathematical concept neither of us knew: 10-adic numbers, which are infinitely repeating numbers that behave weirdly. The first seven minutes of this video explains it well. Is 99999(9) actually -1? Just like 0.99999(9) equalling 1, I will die on the hill that this isn’t true. I don’t care if there are proofs showing me I am wrong about that. And now Tod has a fresh mathematical concept he can torture me with for another 37 years. Happy anniversary, darling.

The day wan’t all math. We also indulged in delicious food. We had one last lunch at Cafe La Plage in Wada; they close permanently on Thursday, quel dommage! Tod ordered the brandade and I had onion soup. So good. I will miss their menu and the staff, too.
And at dinnertime, we made crab cakes and opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate. Because 37 is something special.
