I wrote a long blog post about the aftermath of the typhoon, but it was boring. The details on the ground are interesting to me right now but not to you. So here are highlights with photos.
tl;dr: We are fine. The cats are fine. 555 is fine. Life is inconvenient without water, Internet or cell service, but we are fine.
The typhoon dumped a lot of rain – over a 100 mm on Sunday and a record (for our rain gauge) of 237.4 mm on Monday. Not much wind. Nobody lost a roof this time. Unfortunately, several people died in landslides when they didn’t evacuate in time.
We lost power for about 12 hours at Tod’s office and 30 hours at home. Tod got the generator running for essentials: coffee and fridge.
Water is out through the Oyama area due to a massive landslide that took out the road to Oyama Fudoson. We heard water might be back tonight if they can pressurise the system. That would be welcome.
Update: YES! Hooray! Water at the office. we will check 555 as soon as I post this.
I am at Tod’s office mainly because the Internet is out at home. The landslide took out the fiber along with the road and the water. There no cell service or Internet at home so if you don’t hear from me as quickly as usual, don’t be alarmed.
That’s about the whole story for Typhoon 25. We did have an adventure getting visiting friends to Haneda the day after the rains.
No bus service; no trains running and all the roads were closed – 410, 88, 127, 24 – even the E14 expressway. We drove on a circuitous route of back roads with lots of detours and massive traffic jams. On the way home, we picked up a neighbor’s son who needed a ride from Kisarazu BT. Good timing. It was five or six hours of unexpected driving but we made it safely there and back.
