It has been a brutally hot, record-breaking summer again. Our home weather station recorded a high of 38.2°C (101°F) on August 30th and a “feels like” high of 53.9°C (129°F) on August 18th. But yesterday the heat broke and we saw our first sub-20°C (68°F) overnight temperature since mid-June.

Now we’ll be in a slowly cooling phase for about six weeks with alternating hot and warm days. Winter will eventually arrive! I have hope and energy once more. To celebrate, I drew a new thing for the dining room gallery frame. Sweater weather is on its way.

I have used some of my energy to tidy the garden – between heat and hernia, I completely neglected it all summer. Kawasaki-san gifted me his old electric hedge trimmer this week and I made good use of it until I slashed its cord.
To the untrained eye the garden still looks wildly overgrown but there are surfaces visible again, glimpses of light through trees where vines have been yanked down, and the pussy willow has been cut into a lopsided ball. It’s a never-ending battle with nature. I’ll never win but I feel good about the skirmishes this week.
