56 and 59

It’s right between my birthday and Tod’s so we celebrated by hosting a small dinner with neighborhood friends. We ate, drank, and were merry.

We enjoyed a special wine from Naomi on the patio in the absolutely perfect weather. Hitomi and Kengo attempted to set up the fancy telescope.

Tod roasted a lamb shoulder that rendered so much fat it was basically confit. Decadent! Served with carrots, roasted potatoes, and asparagus it was reminiscent of Easter feasts.

Thanks, Kengo, for snapping photos of us and our meal.

As for me, I made decorations that took into account both the 6 and the 9 in our ages. This was inspired by my mother’s clever birthday cake in 1975, when I was 9 and Jenny was 6. Her friends sat on one side of the table and mine on the other.
