五つのアイデア、一人ではできない

I have been overflowing with project concepts recently – maybe it’s spring, maybe my brain has a burst of good sense for a change – and these five ideas keep coming back to me. I am sharing them here in English and Japanese.

最近、プロジェクトのアイデアがあふれています。春のせいかな、それとも珍しく頭が冴えているのかな。その中でも、五つのアイデアが繰り返し頭に浮かびます。どれも共通するテーマがあります。

These are largely ideas around:

• embracing imperfection in creative ways 不完全さをクリエイティブに受け入れること
• bringing people together 人と人をつなぐこと
• promoting the Awa region 安房地域を盛り上げること

Akiya Recycle Village
空家リサイクル村

Let’s use akiya to create a series of recycle shops. The twist is that each abandoned house specialises in one type of goods, making a curated cluster of specialty recycle shops. For example, “Creative House” offers craft supplies; “Kitchen House” has dishes and pots and pans; “Furniture House” has…you get the idea. Recycle Village has benefits: government is trying to promote reuse of goods; it brings life back to empty houses; provides families with a way to share the items left behind by older generations; and would to bring a new aspect to local tourism.

空き家を活用して、ユニークなリサイクルショップの集まりを作れないでしょうか。ポイントは、それぞれの空き家が一種類の品物を専門に扱うこと。たとえば、「クリエイティブハウス」では手芸用品、「キッチンハウス」では食器や鍋、「ファニチャーハウス」では家具……想像が広がりますね。リサイクル村には多くのメリットがあります。政府が推進する物の再利用を促進できる。空き家に新しい命を吹き込める。上の世代が残した品々を次の世代へつなぐ場になれる。そして、地域観光に新しい魅力を加えられる。

Awa Creative Club
安房そうぞう合

There are so many artists in Awa but almost all end up centered on or connected to a particular event, location, or activity. A broader, inclusive organization with no pressure to perform or profit would encourage collaborating with other artists and open new doors. It might mean casual offline meetings combined with online elements. Visit a gallery, hold a show-and-tell session at someone’s studio, share a meal, meet at a park for a creative afternoon. And online, build friendships, ask questions (or give answers), and share information about upcoming events and opportunities.

安房にはアーティストがたくさんいます。でも多くの場合、特定のイベントや場所、活動を中心に集まりがちです。そこで、プレッシャーなく、肩の力を抜いて参加できる、もっと広くて開かれた組織があればと思っています。他のアーティストと交流したり、新しい可能性を探したり。活動のイメージは、気軽なオフラインの集まりとオンラインの組み合わせ。ギャラリーを訪ねる、誰かのスタジオで作品を見せ合う、一緒に食事をする、公園でクリエイティブな午後を過ごす。オンラインでは、友情を育み、質問したり答えたり、イベントや機会の情報を共有する。利益や成果より、つながりを大切にする場所です。

Champon Salon
チャンポンサロン

This idea is about bringing people together for the pleasure of imperfect bilingual conversation, not the utility of learning a language. Practice makes improvement! Listening builds empathy and understanding. With Japanese and foreign residents intermingling without an agenda, Champon Salon becomes a place where the unspoken gets spoken in both directions. No expertise required, just curiosity and willingness to reach across with whatever words you have. I could start this one in my living room, and I just might.

これは、語学学習の手段としてではなく、不完全なバイリンガル会話を純粋に楽しむための場所です。話すことで上達する、聞くことで共感と理解が生まれる。日本人と外国人が特別な目的なく交わることで、チャンポンサロンは「言葉にされていなかったこと」が両方向で語られる場所になります。専門知識は必要ありません。必要なのは、好奇心と、手持ちの言葉で相手に歩み寄る気持ちだけ。実は、私の居間から始められそうな気がしています。本当にそうするかもしれません。

Awa Fringe Festival
安房フリンジ

Fringe festivals happen in the margins of larger festivals. They take place in unexpected venues and feature lesser-known artists. Whether the Fringe is an “open studio day” where artists and performers welcome visitors, or a program of entertainment in venues like old-age homes or shopping streets, southern Chiba has a great combination of private venues and artists ready to be discovered. As an anchor, the Kozuka Art Festival each July is one possibility — and there are surely other festivals across Awa worth considering. This is a big dream of mine!

フリンジフェスティバルは、大きなフェスティバルの陰で生まれるものです。予想外の会場で、まだ知られていないアーティストたちが活躍する場です。アーティストやパフォーマーがスタジオを開放して来場者を迎える「オープンスタジオの日」でも、老人ホームや商店街などの会場でのパフォーマンスプログラムでも、南房総には個性的な会場と発掘されるのを待っているアーティストが揃っています。軸となるフェスティバルとしては、毎年7月に開催される小塚アートフェスティバルが一つの候補です。安房各地には、他にも可能性のあるフェスティバルがきっとあるはずです。これは私の大きな夢のひとつです！

Craft Stash Marché
ありのままマルシェ

How about a craft market where amateurs and hobbyists are warmly invited?
If you enjoy crafting, you know how creations tend to accumulate. Crochet, basket weaving, pottery, woodworking—people who make things just can’t stop creating. But if there’s even a slight imperfection, we tend to put it in a box and hide it away in the back of the closet. (Especially in Japan, where professional polish feels essential). But small mistakes don’t diminish the value of a piece, they convey the warmth of the maker’s hands. Let’s put our beautiful, usable, and decorative pieces into the world without the pressure of perfection.

手作りが好きな人なら、作品がどんどん溜まっていくのをご存知でしょう。かぎ針編み、かご編み、陶芸、木工——ものづくりをする人は、作らずにはいられないのです。でも、少しでも不完全なところがあると、箱に入れてクローゼットの奥にしまってしまいがち。特に日本では。ありのままマルシェは、アマチュアや趣味の作り手を温かく迎える手作り市です。小さなミスは、作品の価値を下げません。むしろ、作り手の手の温もりが感じられるもの。完璧でなくても、美しく、使えて、飾れる作品を世の中に送り出しましょう。プレッシャーなしで。
