Kitchen Installation Day

It’s finally here! The kitchen, which transformed in concept multiple times over the last two years has finally been installed.

From the beginning of the process, the kitchen has been a challenge. First figuring out a layout – and even where in the house it would be. Ironically, it ended up in the place I first imagined when I sketched plans to renovate the old kominka in April 2021. But it had a turn on the opposite side of the building and even in the middle of the house when the architect drew up his initial plans in October 2021.

I tried to plan for our cooking style (and dreams) and struggled with finding the right layout to fit the space. I recruited opinions for layout concepts on the Facebook group and got great ideas. Then did two complete U-turns including color changes. There were many trips to the Takara Standard showroom.

And yesterday the Final Answer was installed.

I like it. Whew.

It is gift-wrapped against sawdust and dirt. Ready for the arrival of the oven and stovetop sometime soon. And tiling, but that’s a post for later.
