Busy Friday at 555

Two carpenters, two electricians and I spent a productive day on site yesterday.

Mr. Sasaki framed out walls and ceilings and hung plasterboard in the hall. Team Araoka pulled the 200 V cables; set the wiring for the vanity lamps, and worked on the track rails. Sasaki-san hand carved channels for the stairs. I mostly sat upstairs out of the way and finalised the kitchen lighting fixtures I still need to purchase.

The rooms are taking their final form now. There’s a hall and not just the concept of a hall. Frames define where the doors will go. I have been testing out wallpaper and tile colors.

It rained hard most of the morning, and I enjoyed listening to the rain on the roof combined with the sound of construction.

The coming week has some big landmarks: the stairs go in today; the kitchen unit arrives on Wednesday. Things seem to be progressing very quickly now and everyone’s working hard to get this done. Maybe we will be finished by the end of July.
