I checked off a bucket list item yesterday by visiting the Lake Nojiri Naumann Elephant Museum.
Years ago, Tod and I learned there had been elephants roaming Japan in the Ice Age. We said we’d go see their stomping grounds someday.
The museum is nicely put together, with multilingual audio guides and lots of details in the exhibits. Since 1962, there have been community archeology projects to search for bones in the lake bed and their successes are documented and displayed here.
We stayed the night at Fujiya ryokan, right on the lake, and this morning we continue north to the seashore for a thematic anniversary adventure.
