Feeling some cabin fever, I needed to get out of the house to take “a stupid walk for my stupid mental health.” Luckily for me, the woods are right here at my doorstep.
I opted to take one of my favorite routes to the top of the little mountain to the east. I stopped by at the bamboo playground for a ride on the swing, observed a few fallen trees and then hiked over to the base of the steep hill.

Along the way, I enjoyed looking at the array of funguses on the older trees.

Such beauty and variety, from the weird black lumps of hypoxylon to the stripes of turkey tail to the large bracket fungus. I love the way the little white ones align in the ridges of bark. Fungus is cool.
When I got to the top of the hill, I stood a while and listened to the wind. Watched the leaves flutter. It was peaceful.
It is only a couple hundred meters from the house, but the top of the woods feels like a different world.
