It’s Fluffernutter

It seems that the Cat Distribution System has selected a new resident for us.

On February 11th, I spied a fluffy orange and white cat over by the old shed. A new face. He returned a few times in the next week. He was skittish, meowing loudly for attention, then running away to a safe distance when I looked at him.

He is clearly a housecat who is lost or abandoned. I hope we can find his people; if not, I guess we have a new cat.

He disappeared for a week or two and when he returned randomly in the middle of the night, I took pity on him and gave him a snack. After that he became a regular visitor in the middle of the night. I asked him to stop coming at 3 am, and to try 3 pm. And he did!

Maura, Fritter, and Beryl are curious about him and they are all interacting with one another – nose-to-nose sniffing, following one another around, even a belly flop or two. Not best friends, but there’s no aggression at all.

Which is good because Fluffernutter has figured out the cat door. He lets himself in for snacks now. And he allows me pet him, so I’ve been able to assess his body condition. Now I need to encourage him into the carrier or to trap him so that I can take him to the vet.

Why is he called Fluffernutter? He’s fluffy, orange, and white just like a peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwich.
