Artsy Koi Nobori

Koi nobori are carp streamers that fly on Children’s Day. On Friday, May 3rd, I’ll host a koi nobori art activity at the Soil to Soul Farmpark kids’ festival.

Megumi and I both saw artsy foreign koi nobori that are making the rounds on social media and she was inspired to ask me to do a stall for the festival. Of course, I said yes.

There will be big fish or a set of three mini-fish. I spent time this morning sewing and stringing the fish together. I have been preparing the bases and gathering decoration parts. I have enough for about 40 participants.

My struggle is how to organise all of the craft items. I have a lot of things for people to play with:

  • pens
  • paint
  • stencils
  • stickers
  • fabric
  • felt
  • paper
  • beads & buttons
  • ribbon & yarn
  • glue
  • scissors
  • needle & thread

It’s a small stall, so organised chaos is probably the best option. I have a low table, cardboard boxes and tin cans for storage, and a bunch of carpet tiles to use for seating. As long as it isn’t too muddy, that should be enough.

But that’s not all… At the Chikura Art Marche yesterday, I noticed that the stalls with “make your own” activities also had finished products for sale for the same price at the DIY option. That’s a smart idea. So for the next few days I will be making some fish flags for sale.

Check back for photos of my finished ones. I can hardly wait to get started!
