Hardscaping begins

I was excited to find the Monaca Doken yumbo parked in our driveway when I came home from lunch today. And a little while after that, my fav guys turned up with a truck full of stone slabs to supplement the ones I already have.

They first changed the bucket for jaws, a process that takes some fiddling to get pins aligned properly. And then they unloaded the truck.

It didn’t take long for Beryl to start exploring the pile.

While the yumbo was warmed up, we moved the giant smoky quartz. It was an interesting procedure that I caught on film:

I have been waiting almost two years to get this big boulder into its final position. It doesn’t really look impressive at the moment, but it anchors the west end of the front yard and that will make more sense when the patio is in and the garden is sorted out a bit more.

The tiles arrived today, too. Since the Monaca guys have to go off to another job for the next week, I am tempted to work on the patio by myself. How hard can it be? (As my parents would say in the response to such naive folly, “famous last words”)
