Bankiya-san

The bankiya-san is our roofer. I have no idea what his name is and I will probably never learn it because I will refer to him by his job role. This is commonly done for tradesmen, and so a lot of the people who will work on 555 will be nameless. It is highly convenient for me, who is terrible at names.

Yesterday he stopped by for a meeting with Sasaki-san and Teramoto-san. I stood nearby and watched as Teramoto-san sketched out the complicated inner join of the roof and asked for a full-scale model of this area. I think he enjoys his power as architect to make these requests.

He showed the bankiya-san some photos of a colleague’s solution for the four lower corners of the house. I do not like it at all – it seemed far too pointy – but if we have a model, I will be able to see it more clearly than a photo and can suggest changes. And as the “owner-san”, even the architect will comply eventually (cue evil laughter).
